long considered itself a model of morality and civilized behavior. But in spite
of its lofty posturing, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was the scene of a
surprising number of gruesome and sensational murders in the nineteenth

Captain Joseph White-A Most Extraordinary Case
In 1830, John and Joseph Knapp hired Richard Crowninshield to murder their great uncle Capt. Joseph White. They very nearly got away with their scheme, but the great Daniel Webster secured their convictions.

The Sleepwalking Defense
